Malia Obama going to Harvard

Looks like she’s going to Harvard. Go Crimson!

Is secret service going to tie-up traffic every time she crosses Mass Ave?

Does she still get secret service when her parents move out of the WH next January?

Good question. Parents do.

I’m surprised, I don’t think Harvard has a film program. Maybe she’s changed her mind, like so many other teens.

This is not a shocker.

Not surprising. Both parents went to law school there.

Note that this is the daily mail though :).wait for official announcement

@MYOS1634 I think we can assume it’s official :slight_smile:

Thank you

I’m not sure if she retains secret service attendants. But even if she did, it’s not as if it’s a new phenomenon. Barbara (Yale '04) and Jenna Bush (UoT '04) were attending college while their dad was in office and the country was at war. Their bodyguards were not obtrusive on their respective campuses.

Here’s another anecdote for you: when 2002 Gold Medalist figure skater Sarah Hughes was touring colleges, Yale smartly had Barbara Bush be her tour guide. Sarah was amazed at how Barbara’s celebrity status was simply a non-issue on campus – something very important to Sarah. Sarah matriculated at Yale, graduating eventually in 2009.

No surprise at all.

I always thought grad school didn’t count for much in the legacy category.

Probably they got in because Obama promises to put his Presidential Library at Harvard instead of Kenya

FWIW: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/02/us/politics/malia-obama-to-attend-harvard-but-not-until-2017.html

All of which means that by the time Malia attends Harvard (2017-2018), her father will no longer be President and her Secret Service protection will be a non-issue.

The President has the right to sign a directive extending the protection for their children after leaving office, as President George W Bush did. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bush-daughters-kept-secret-service-protection/

Obama may choose to do the same.

God knows the Obama family gets so much hate from the haters.

I think he would be wise to extend protection for his entire family. If this election cycle has taught us anything, it is that a candidate that promotes hate can still garner a good deal of support.

Harvard has increased its offerings in the applied arts in recent years, including film. (Dance, theater and media is a new major too.) http://ves.fas.harvard.edu/concentrating-ves

Yes, I am sure they will have it. The number of threats for this President and his family have been unprecedented.
