man..i feel sorry

I feel so sorry for the kids who graduate in 2007-2008 for high school (like my little cousin). Boy, with all this competition for admission rising every year, i will not be surprised if admissions for schools go to far less than 10 percent. Does any one agree with me?

We are up too late, but yes, I agree. My little brother who is 6 years younger will graduate HS class of '12, and he's one of those really smart, personable kids who might not end up doing too well in school, but just 'okay'.

And whereas 'okay' would cut it a few years back, or in the days of my parents, no longer.

If you get into an ivy, damnit, everyone says you have to pretty much go. What an opportunity!

My mother, years later as I'm about to apply to colleges, tells me that even though she went to a Texas college, she got into Yale... she didn't want to leave home. And then, that really wasn't looked down upon.

These days, can you imagine such a thing!? If someone turned down Yale?

These are COLLEGES and a small fraction of our lives! We fret all the time about them, yet unless you want to be an afterthought in the world of academia, you need not worry about getting into those schools! There are a lot of successful people who graduate from such colleges, but as many and far more really from smaller, lesser known colleges!

oh yea.. i agree that competition is getting tough.. i can see it at my school. the c/o 2006 is freakin competitive and G.P.As are higher than the valedictorian of my class. it's crazy. 2007 is the same too.. very competitive about who gets what honor classes who's ranked were, who's applying where..makes me glad im graduating this year.

But who knows, maybe the college admissions system may involve into something other than what we have today. criterias may change, priorities may change, new colleges may come into the top 10 ranking. But yeah, if nothing changes at all, then it's going to be a maddening time for those who graduate from high school after us.

think about your kids... a w.4.4 and a 1500 will get you deferred at ucr and ucm.... sad times
