Man this video is awesome!

check it out everybody [YouTube - United State Air Force “Above All”](http://youtube.com/watch?v=_h1ozsCPjok&feature=related)

umm... wow. i think you should ask all of your cadre if they've seen it and see what happens.

oh, and definetely brag to them about how "awesome" it is. you'll fit in well (yes that's sarcastic)

honestly, i'd say cool your engines for a little bit. i understand you're excited, u have graduation (form high school) to look forward to far before even consdiering anything u see in the video (to incldue basic and 4 dig year).

enjoy life and stop looking to the next step or else you'll lose everything. thats one thing cadets overall have to work on. they look so hard to get here then get out of here that they miss all of the great points along the way

Eagle36,

I'll say it. That IS an awesome video. Finally, an advertising commercial that I am NOT embarrassed by! It actually gives a taste of the pride I have for being a part of a service that brings fear to our enemies and pride to our country.

Still, we have a long way to go to catch up to our Marine compadres in the commercial advertising department. Hard to keep up with a 200+ year reputation, and thier commercials are simple and direct in the way they demonstrate it. I'll admit it, the first time I saw their commercial with their Silent Guard, doing their thing throughout this great country, I got chills from the rythmic sound of their rifles slapping their hands in unison.

flyboy,

Don't let the cynical naysayers cause you to lose sight of your dreams. It will be those dreams which, over the next five or six years, when things are at their toughest, that will keep you going.

Bullet - I concur. That Silent Guard video brought tears to my eyes the first time I saw it. Now, as I can watch it with a tad less emotion, I am truly in awe of the whole thing!

Another perfect example of "actions speak louder than words" as no words were necessary to make the point.

Is there a video of the Marine's commercial? I would like to see that.

You keep dreaming, flyboy! And don't let anyone dissuade you. You may get razzed for it at BCT, but don't ever lose the dream.

USNA69- I'd hardly call the cadets on this forum cynical, and if those that were came on, this place would be rather different. You're looking at some of the least cynical (or not at all I should say) people at USAFA posting here. We've learned from very recent experience how different people play out here. Dreams may help, but for so many, they weren't enough here. It takes dreams, people, support, and hard work to get through this place. You should know that from your experience at USNA. Don't call us cynical naysayers.

i apologize if you think i'm cynical b/c the AF continues to come up with new statements and sayings to try to show itself off. quite honestly, no one i've talked to in the AF (not jsut here) takes the "above All" or Airman's Creed or any of this new stuff seriously.

just a side question: why are we working hard to recruit if we've been force-shaping? pay ppl to elave, then pay to get mroe ppl? seems counterproductive.

Cadets here do have a tendency to get cynical, although most of us on this board are not, so the Cadre here might make fun of such a video, since the "Above All", as cool as it is, does get extremely repetitive. The point gets made, and then it does just drags on.

And in some ways, I agree with eagle. It's important to keep your sight on the small things too, or else you will not learn enough to handle the big things. As much as my goal of being a fighter pilot does help me keep going sometimes, what really helps me keep going is a desire to let no obstacle stop me from reaching the end of my current situation with “Excellence In All I do”. Currently, that would be getting through to the end of 4-dig year and becoming a 3-dig. That’s my short term goal, and it’s a lot easier to relate what I’m doing now to that then what I might get to do in another 5 years.

If all you ever do is just look forward to what will happen in the future, you will never be satisfied. So, 2012, just concentrate on finishing HS out strong first, then concentrate on getting through Beast, then 4-dig year, etc. Nonetheless, make sure you have a reason you are doing all of this. Have that long-term goal that you want to achieve, and use it to help you excel in and enjoy each stage of the journey. There are not many people who get to experience what you are about to embark on, and there are close to 9 other people who wanted the slot you have just as bad. Enjoy what you have now. Sorry about the long post.

Fencermom,

The video is on quite often, usually during a sports program (which is why I see it often). I believe it first aired during this year's Superbowl.

Basically, it just shows the silent gaurd standing in line at different sites throughout the country (Mt Rushmore, the Rockies, a Mid-west farm, etc.), performing their routine of twirling and catchin gtheir rifles. Very load rythmic clicking sound thoughout the commercial, which is the sound made by their rifles slappingtheir hands when then stop them. Just a voice over talkin about the few and the proud, then a fade to black with the slapping sound fading out. Pretty darn inspiring.

I'm just glad the AF finally made a commercial that comes close. Bt like I said, it's pretty darn hard to compete against the reputation for duty and honorable service of the United States Marine Corps! To my Marine brothers (and sisters): Semper Fi!

The Airman's Creed is starting to grow on me (or at least a few lines of it).

That commercial kind of annoyed me. You don't need to say the new slogan every 6 seconds to get the point across! (Yes, they said "above all" 8 times in 56 seconds)

Okay, I am only an enlisted guy but I can tell you that eagle is right about the commercials, but I do think that the airman's creed is making a difference.

I did find this video very informational on what the air force is really like for most new airman and LTs.
http://www.afmentor.com/multi-media/videos/html/realaf.asf

Oh and I found the Marine's video at this link
YouTube - New US Marine Corps Commercial -- Official Extended Version

Raimius, We were given the word by the Wing King here that memorizing the Airman's Creed was MANDATORY, and he would be calling people out at meetings to stand up and recite it! He announced this at a CC Call where he also told us we could not afford to continue to do more with less, and to start keeping track of where we waste time on pointless things that haven't anything to do with mission accomplishment (part of the AF's AFSO 21 push).
I guess I still want to retire without ever getting an Article 15, because I fought back the desire to raise my hand and point out the irony of these two directions to him in front of the Wing. I did, however, remember four lines so far ("I Am an American Airman" is repeated four times in the creed :) ). Besides, I DO like it, it reminds us of what we stand for.

supposedly the entire AF is supposed to be able to recite the creed...

and BlueSuiter, there's nothing "only" about an enlisted guy. you help make the backbone of the AF, and none of the future or current officers on this board could do anyhting if not your ppl like you, so thank you

took the words out of my mouth eagle! Beat me to the punch. :)

Beat me to it.

Edit: Looks like hornet did as well! :)

Bullet, the repetative portions tend to annoy me a little. "Yes, I KNOW 'I am an American Airman' already!...I wouldn't be memorizing this otherwise."

That's pretty funny/sad about your Wing King's orders...almost as bad as the $200,000 study which concluded that government studies waste money to research the obvious.
