Management Information Systems (MIS) with CS minor

Hello, I will be attending the University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 2014 and am needing to choose a major. I am deciding between CS and MIS. My long term goal in life is to end up owning my own business, however, I would also like to have the ability to get a job as a computer programmer if necessary. I talked today with a UT recruiter about getting a programming job with an MIS degree and a CS minor, he said that he didn't know if I would be able to get one (as in he was neutral).

So, with a CS minor and a MIS major from the McComb's School of Business, would I be able to get a programming job out of college?

-Note that my plan is not to get a job as a programmer out of college, I would just like to keep that possibility open. I love programming, but it's not something I want to do for the rest of my life.

While taking selected CS courses like operating systems, networks, and databases will give you a stronger technical background for MIS jobs, if you want the best prospects for CS jobs, it would be better to major in CS. Also, if you intend to start a computer industry business, the stronger technical background of CS would certainly help.

Maybe consider a double major. There should be a bit of overlap between the two, considering MIS at UT Austin encompasses programming. A minor in CS is pretty weak… in general, minors are practically meaningless to employers.
