Hello all, I’m new here. I’m Lebanese, and I recently passed the composition pre-screening at Mannes, and still awaiting a reply from NEC (Hopefully today or tomorrow, as they said they would be sending results by January 10th).
I would like to know what are composition interviews typically like at Mannes, and am I going through all the way? What about NEC too?
In addition, what could help my chances of getting a good merit scholarship? Thank you
My D interviewed at Mannes a few years ago. The biggest difference between Mannes and several other schools is was the larger number of faculty involved in the interview. She found it a bit intimidating. They asked questions about her scores and were quite detailed. She actually felt the interview did not go well and was really surprised when the acceptance letter came although she did not end up going there.
Best of luck!
NEC: If invited, applicants are required to interview with the composition faculty. Interviews will last 20 minutes and will give our faculty the opportunity to learn more about applicants and their work and simultaneously allow applicants to learn more about NEC and our Composition program. The interview does not include an entrance exam or demonstration of instrumental proficiency. Applicants to the DMA, however, are required to take the standard DMA entrance exams while in Boston.
Mannes: Applicants are interviewed by members of the composition faculty about their backgrounds and musical knowledge.
Remember that any interview anywhere should also include a chance for you to learn about the program and decide on whether it is a good fit.
Thank you all for your replies! I also passed the prescreenings at NEC too a couple of days ago! What a relief. I think I’m going to attend NEC after all, but going to both interviews on Feb 22nd (NEC) and march 2nd (Mannes).
I feel really confident for the interviews now. Do you think it helps if I know a teacher on the faculty?
