oh ****! only 3 weeks till the news comes out! woooooooooooooooooo im so damn excited one week ago 4 weeks felt like an eternity, i was counting the hours. i have a feeling these next three weeks are gonna be nothing, and are gonna fly by!

impboy, it seems like you're dead set on Penn. I feel like if you don't get in you're going to be devastated forever, and that's not a good thing... Do you have other schools that you'd be happy at?
I was deferred ED too, and at first I was pretty upset... I felt like everyone else on CC had gotten in, and I was among the unlucky minority who hadn't. But I have other good schools, namely Cornell and Georgetown, that I think are fantastic and have a lot to offer... So while I'd love to get into Penn RD, if it doesn't happen, at least I can be happy with some of my other choices.

with_one, you're right, i AM set on penn. but you know what, i do know that i know id be happy at the majority of the schools i applied to: hopkins, columbia fu school, UC berkeley, michigan, etc...but you hit the nail on the head, i am god damn set on penn, and i dont think thats a bad thing :)

i really do wish all the ED deferees the best of luck though, because i know deep down inside, you applied to penn ED for a reason, and you know youd take penn in a heartbeat (cept dulce -.-;...), so im not gonna give up, and i encourage all of you to do the same :)

yeah - good luck to all my fellow deferees... hope at least some of us get in... the odds are against us(im sure we all know this) but good luck anyway

I never wrote that sweet letter to my rep begging to get accepted. Doubt very much that I'll be accepted. I don't want to go anymore, that's why I never wrote the letter. I'm not kissing anyone's you know what

Gah, this thread makes me feel guilty. I am 100% certain that I won't be going to Penn if accepted (I recently got a likely letter from Duke and I'd pick Duke over Penn, so...)

Should I withdraw my application? I don't think it makes a difference now, but I do feel kinda bad. I might be taking away the spot of one of you guys who really want Penn.

Don't mean to sound arrogant by the way--I may very well get rejected from Penn.

Mallomar, don't be like dulce where you know you are not going and have a better option. However, if I were you and got a likely letter from my top choice, I wouldn't pull any other applications because who knows what may happen in the next two weeks. It is ultimately up to you and what is in your best interest, but if you are 100% in at Duke and plan on going there, it would be nice to other applicants to withdraw your application.

I guess. My parents would be against it, though, so there really isn't anything I can do. Besides, it is probably too late for my withdrawal to make a difference.

DEFINITELY DO NOT withdraw anything. You said you get a likely letter from Duke, not an official acceptance. I wouldn't withdraw anything. It's Penn's loss. They keep a long wait list so don't feel sorry for any students whose spot you might have taken. Besides, it would be good to squash their yield this year.

mallomar - that is very considerate of you, thank you. on the other hand, I agree with Venkat... and even dulce's point about the likely letter (though certainly not the rest of his post).
I appreciate the thought though :)

indeed mallomar, that is a very considerate thought. i certainly wont stop you from withdrawing you app, but i will say the decision is up to you and even though dulce is a complete *******, he has some valid points. duke gave you a likely letter, not an official acceptance. its too bad the waitlist has no benefit for the deferred /sigh :) grats on duke though, you must be quite an accomplished scholar!

It's not like there's a direct cause-and-effect relationship here: withdrawing the app does not mean another candidate will get accepted, much less a fellow CCer. It's probably too late for it to make a difference now, so soon to decision day. Speaking of which, ARGH!!!

i would play it safe and not retract the application. who knows, maybe you'll find penn more appealing in a month, or maybe you'll receive a better financial package from penn. maximizing, not eliminating, your choices is the best strategy.

Well yeah... itll be good if the yield is low... but thats good only for waitlisted applicants. As WhartonAdvisor stated somewhere else, Deferred applicants are either accepted or rejected, but not waitlisted.

As a deferred applicant, I dont care about the yield.

Mallomar, while I would appreciate if you withdraw your app, Seriously, think about getting the acceptance letter from Penn. Once it is in your hands, youll be able to decide to go there if you want. You can be now 100% sure you wont attend, but if you get into Penn you may start doubting and maybe will end up choosing Penn.
