<p>I'm an incoming freshman who has been in a high school marching band for all four years, and I'm sort of unsure if I should join the one at Virginia Tech. Mostly about time commitment, since I hear that they also practice on weekends, but I also do want to miss out on parties and stuff like that. Basically, I don't want to miss out on the overall college experience if I join the band. How much time?</p>
<p>Yeah band people party as much or more than the general population. Tubas, well…</p>
<p>One of my son’s friends was in the marching band and an engineering student. He had an active social life outside the band and maintained his studies. However, as he enters his Jr. year he has decided to not continue with the Marching Virginians.</p>
