Margaritaville lost its mayor- sleep well Jimmy Buffett

Oh nooooo ……Jimmy Buffett, legendary 'Margaritaville' singer, dies at 76

NO!

On our way out to Maine this summer, we stopped to visit my brother and SIL in their new home in Latitudes Margaritaville in SC. Jimmy would make surprise visits to these properties and do impromptu concerts which they were hoping to enjoy someday.

We’ve seen him in concert several times since the 70’s. He was always so much fun. So, so sorry to hear this. 76 is too young.

“Never meant to last…”

So sad to hear this news. Seeing Jimmy live was a “bucket list” item for me for years. A bunch of us got together in 2021 and saw him live for his first post-pandemic show. It was a night I will always remember. He will live on in his music, but will be very missed…

My college roommates, a couple, introduced me to his music around 1974, and we saw him in a small club someplace in Marin County. His success was amazing to observe, well deserved.

We just happened to have spent last night at a place called “Jimmy Bukkett’s”, so I’m sure the spirit will live on.

He will be missed! Saw him at least 4 times, the last being at Wrigley Field. Just thinking of him puts a smile on my face. What a legacy he leaves.

Heartbroken

“ And there’s that one particular harbour
Sheltered from the wind
Where the children play on the shore each day
And all are safe within

Most mysterious calling harbour
So far but yet so near
I can see the day when my hair’s full gray
And I finally disappear”

Very said. I am a true Parrothead, and I’ve seen him in concert at least 15 times, at least three at Red Rocks. So much fun.

My mother also loved him. Many mornings she’d say “Alexa, play Jimmy Buffett.”

So very sad. Yes, he was far too young.

I was just reading his Wikipedia page, and two things jumped out at me that I never knew:

  • Jim Croce was Jimmy’s friend and mentor. When Croce died at the far, far, far too young age of 30 in a plane crash, Buffet was selected by their record company to be Croce’s replacement. Both Jimmy and Jim were incredibly talented, and the songs they wrote and the voices they sang in were something everyone could relate to.

  • Jimmy was a billionaire when he died. And more importantly, he used his talents and abilities to aid a variety of charities. He was an immensely talented man, and his talents went far beyond music.

The world is a lesser place without you, Jimmy. Will miss you much, and rest in peace.

I only saw him once at the Hollywood Bowl, but he was a major part of my soundtrack in college.

FS1 is playing Jimmy music on its fade outs on the Wisconsin game. Very nice tribute.

TMZ is reporting the cause of death was from skin cancer (diagnosed 4 years ago) that turned into lymphoma. There’s also a mention that Paul McCartney visited him a week ago.

I didn’t know of their friendship but I did see a lovely tribute to Jimmy Buffett by Sir Paul.

In a nod to his first hit song, Come Monday, some fans are pointing out that his passing was on Labor Day weekend.

A very rare cancer took his life. :broken_heart:

He lived in the sunshine and died probably because of it

Jimmy’s last performance was two months ago in Rhode Island. A member of the Coral Reefer band was playing in an outdoor show in Portsmouth RI and Jimmy was recuperating on Long Island (I believe) and was itching to get out of the house. When he heard about his bandmate’s show, he chartered a plane and showed up at the show. He did several songs for the initially stunned crowd. After the shock, as one would expect, the crowd went wild!
