im trying to decide which of these schools to attend. Its mostly based on social life and student body as i am confident that both are strong academically. Any insight on where a california girl should go???? any information AT ALL would be helpful :)

my worries:

denver is too athletic and i (im kind of a fashionista but i like to hike too) wont fit in.
Goucher has too many hipsters?
drew seems really small
Is marist really a party school? because it seemed nice

by the way im sure im completely off base with these generalizations but that is just what ive read.

Two of the 11 schools d toured were marist and colorado state. D thought Colorado in general had a “hick” feeling about it. The kids seemed comfortable in their flannel plaid shirts, jeans and uggs. Colorado is beautiful no doubt, with many “oudoorsey” things to do. Marist as you know, is a gorgeous campus right on the hudson. Perhaps their fashion program may interest you. They have alot of connections with NYC. Marist’s close proximity to NYC may give you the your access to city life you crave and a good education. However, Marist is smallish, it you need that big campus feeling and school spirit then maybe denver is your best bet.

Hi reallyrosie my S is a Frosh @ Marist, and my D’s best friend went to Drew. @ Marist you as a fashionista and hiker would fit right in. The students are very style conscious, altho they have alot of school pride so you will see alot of red (marist) as well, and as far as hiking, just getting around campus is a hike- not that its large but it is hilly, and you are in the hills , there are so many off-campus trails and places nearby to hike. You can “hike” over the mid-hudson bridge which affords you a gorgeous view, as long as you don’t look down ;). What I know secondhand of Drew, is it is small and very closed, simplistic campus. It is pretty, the iconic campus look and feel. The community there is pretty eclectic, but very close knit, kind of like a small town. It too is not too bad a trip to NYC as there were many day trips my D’s friend took advantage of. It is not a hiking campus though. As far as Marist being a party school, that rep caused me concern when my S was interested in going there, but now that he is there, I see it is just that a undeserved rep. Altho there is drinking, and plenty of bars to avail oneself of, there are plenty of opportunities to do other things and plenty of people looking to do other things with. The athletic center is tops, and theres a bus every weekend that takes you to the nearest mall, which has mega stores. Anything a fashionista could want! There are several bands on campus and a ton of clubs, including a bowling club that takes you weekly to the nearest alley. Well, hope some of this helps you in your decision, my only question is Why do you want to leave Ca??? lol

im actually just really tired of the california attitude haha hoping for some more down to earth people which is why i am considering goucher … hopefully marist is the same! im just wondering coming from cali i dont hear anything about marists reputation but does it have a reputation as a strong academic school at say fordham or skidmore level? because those are other schools that i looked into. thanks so much by the way!

Definately- Fordham,Skidmore, Fairfield, Loyola (md), UScranton, Marist, are all fairly much considered by the same caliber student, and with similar stats. Siena is also oft times considered but I believe the academic standing is not as high. I’m sure there are more but I’m just zoning out right now. Funny how the grass always looks greener, I’d love to spend a few years in Ca… Good Luck to you!!!

thank you so much for your input im glad to hear that marist has a good reputation! and yes the grass is always greener … does anyone know anything about the fashion merchandising program at marist???

I too know nothing about the Fashion programs @Marist, but I wonder if you had seen whats online? Heres the links: Go to Marist,Prospective students,Freshman, follow links to majors & minors, majors, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising. Thats Marists info, sorry I haven’t any personal knowledge of anyone in the program. Again, Good Luck, and I just wanted to add, in all your posts, your sunny personality comes through, I really think you would fit in perfectly @Marist!
