We have two sons in college and both have had their FAFSA's selected for verification purposes recently. The one college made a correction to "parents income" and added the $800 tax credit "Making Work Pay" to our income. This was just enough to disqualify my son for a $600 Pell Grant. Many other parents we talked to never listed the Making Work Pay tax credit on their FAFSA. Was the college right in doing this? Thanks

Yes. This has been discussed a bit on the Financial Aid forum. I believe it was kelsmom who explained it quite well.

Others can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that now that the one college has done the correction, your other child’s college may soon learn about the correction and that son’s aid may change as well. (That’s what I remember reading in another thread…but I could be wrong.)
