Marketing

I also tell you that in 5 years of HS I've never take in a report an unsufficient grade (always between A and C)
I the last 2 years I took lots of B and some A and C and very rarely D.
Math was my best subject with A.
Then History, Philosophy, and so on with B.
The worst subject was Italian with C.

I think this could be good, right?
I've never study very hard because was unnecessary.
I took that grades with only 1 hour of study a day.
I think to understand things very fast! :D

May I ask you if my written english looks quite good?

Work on your written English. I'm having some trouble reading it clearly. You'll want to study English before taking the SAT. Also, as an international student, you'll need to take the TOEFL.

Sure, I'll study before taking the SAT...I known the score is very important.
Before the test I guess I'll want to spent 4-5 months by my friends in the States working on my english probably with a teacher.
I read somewhere I need only the SAT because the TOEFL is unnecessary, maybe I'm wrong.

Alexandre,
What do you think about my credentials?
Maybe my tennis career could be a big point....

Kingsitaliano, your school grades seem fine, but they are hard to interpret as you followed an entirely different system of education. Have other students from your school gone to the US for college? If so, how were their grades? Your SAT and SAT 2 results will clear things up a great deal.

As UCBChemEGrad pointed out, you will have to take the TOEFL. And I agree that you need to improve your written English.

Playing tennis is obviously a big deal. You should check if you can apply as a recruited athlete. Look into universities that have Division I tennis programs. Many universities with good business schools also have Divison I tennis programs. Schools I can think of right off the bat are:

Ohio State University
University of California-Berkeley
University of Florida
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
University of Notre Dame
University of Southern California
University of Texas-Austin
University of Virginia

Thanks Alexandre!
Is there a book where I can find a good description of every University like a guide?

Hi everyone! I'm back! :D
I bought Fiske guide to college 2008 and I'm still searching the best Marketing Major.
Probably I found my answer : U-PENN
Everyone told me that this in the best college for the major I'm looking for.
Also USNWR put U-Penn in the top of the ranking.
Do you agree? Is it really the best?.

I understand that It will be very hard/impossible going there, but never say die, right? :D

^ Penn's Wharton school is arguably the best business school in the U.S. It will be extremely competitive for admission, as you say.

I would also look at some less competitive options as well.

Thank you UCBChemEGrad.
I would ask you, if possible, some links about College Rankings.
I found only USNews.com....

^ For undergraduate business school rankings, USNews is probably your best source. Other rankings, mainly for graduate programs, are available from BusinessWeek and The Wall Street Journal.

Thanks!
It it really hard for an international student get into UT?
Is the admission extremely competitive?
Thanks for your answers!

Hi!
I'm doing a lot more research to find the right college for me and I decide to talk more about me and the most impact factor in selecting my college.

ME
I'm 19, I'm a good tennis player and in the next few years I'll try to become a Pro.
When my career will be over I wish to go back study.

After the studies I will work in my parents company (tourism industry, travel agencies ecc.) which is quite big and famous here in Italy.
Together we thought that Marketing Program could be the best choice for me and for my future work situation and I love this idea.
Before taking SAT and TOEFL I'll work one year in the US to increase my English.
For this reason the scores will be not a problem.

HIGH SCHOOL
I did the final exam last year in a Linguistic High School.
I took 84 where the maximum is 100 and the minimum to pass is 60.
I also tell you that in 5 years of HS I've never taken in a report an deficient grade (always between your A and C).
I the last 2 years I took lots of B and some A and C; very rarely D.
Math was my best subject with A.
Then History, Philosophy, and so on with B.
The worst subject was Italian with C.

MOST IMPACT FACTOR IN SELECTING A COLLEGE
My ideal of university is UT but generally:

1) Best college in my Major (Marketing)
2) I prefer big Universities
3) Social life
4) Sub-urban, Large city
5) Football program

I love this forum, thanks

Which college do you think could be the best choice with these preferences in connection with my future work situation?
If you need more information ask me with no problems.

I truly thank all of you
Riccardo

Anyone can please help me?
Unfortunately only you can give me some advice because here in Italy nobody knows...

When you say football, I assume you mean American Football, not European Football. Are we talking Tom Brady or Zinedine Zidane?

Ohio State University
University of California-Berkeley
University of Florida
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
University of Notre Dame
University of Southern California
University of Texas-Austin
University of Virginia
University of Wisconsin-Madison

American football of course, I support San Francisco 49ers :D
Which Universities of that list are the most competitive to getting in? Can you please make a kind of ranking of this?.
Which one accept easier an international student?
Thanks Alexandre

PS
I'm Italian so I hate Zinedine Zidane :D ahaahaha

Check out Integrated Marketing Certificate at Northwestern:
Medill - IMC Undergraduate Certificate

The good thing is you don't have to be a journalism major to get into this certificate program. The bad thing is you can't apply until the second year. I am not sure if admission is competitive. By the way, Kellogg is the king in marketing; I bet there's collaboration between Medill and Kelogg for this program. Some IMC faculty have joint appointment with the Kellogg school.

On Alexandre's list, only University of Notre Dame and University of Southern California are private schools where, theoretically, it may be easier to get in as an International. HOWEVER, USC is very competitive.

Ohio State University seems to me would be easiest to get in from this list.

In terms of selectivity, definitely the hardest to get into would be Berkeley... after that, arguably:

University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
University of Virginia
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
University of Texas-Austin
University of Wisconsin-Madison
University of Florida
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign

You need to study each school's website carefully. In many schools there is no such thing as a 'Marketing' department... marketing is simply a branch of Business.

On this site, it is recommended students apply to three kinds of schools "reach" (highly selective schools) "match" (schools whose students' stats are similar to yours) and "safety" (schools where you are very likely to get into based on your grades and scores.) Unfortunately as an International student you may have to contact the admissions offices of the schools you're interested in to evaluate your school record, since the system you came from is so different.

Finally -- I hope you realize how much schools charge International students... you will be likely paying between $25,000-$45,000 per year.

In general, Notre Dame is more competitive than USC (test scores are quite a bit higher). USC gets a lot of applicants from California which has a huge population but the quality of applicant pool isn't as good as that for Notre Dame or its admit rate may suggest. Not sure about internationals though.

USC is a BIG school for Internationals -- they're drawn to the location & glamour ;)
