Kid is not able to finish profile info on Coalition App due to an apparent glitch, and so is not able to go further in the app to see the Maryland specific questions and start them. Could anyone share what they are?
I have sent a message to Coalition but have not received a response yet and the EA deadline is coming soon. Thanks!
Call the school right away - they need to be made aware of the glitch. The November 1st priority deadline is far too close to wait for an answer on this forum…
There are some posters on the “Parents of the hs class of 2018” who have already completed the UMD Coalition App. They may be able to offer some advice. Also, Astro77 who posted on this forum has a kid who has completed the UMD App.
We’re still trying to understand the Coalition App for UMD at this point. I am concerned that it says my DD’s SATs were received on March 1, when she took it after that. We can’t see the actual scores they have? Hoping they have everything.
Thank you @treschicos for the prompts. And thanks to everyone else for the responses. Maybe the application doesn’t have a true glitch, if others have been able to complete it. Although I have tried 3 separate times and the same roadblock has occurred each time.
The problem for us has to do with inputting the high school info. For high school 1, it asks for “date taken” as if it were a test. High school 2 has the correct look up function. But my kid has only attended 1 high school, so we need that high school 1 option.
Under the Application Questions…there is a big blue note… ! This section has changed: The application questions have been updated.
I don’t see where the questions or prompts have changed since I worked on this app two weeks ago. Does anyone know what specifically changed or what this means?
I ran into a glitch when doing my app. It wouldn’t let me proceed to the next page, and didn’t explain why. I sent an email to the Coalition help desk and received a pretty quick answer. In my case it turned out that I kept skipping over a question that was a mandatory response. I forget which question it was, and it was easy to miss because it was buried in a list of other questions that were optional responses. In any case, if you get to a point where the program won’t let you proceed, look very carefully at the previous questions and see if you missed a required one.
Thanks @Junior3 I have not been so lucky to receive a quick response. The first time I received no response, and the second time I received a response, but no answer to my problem. I guess my kid will just fill it out as much as possible, and hope that it’s understandable.
When checking the application status on the coalition for Maryland everything has a receive date however the application complete still says waiting to be received. Did anyone else have this problem? Not sure what they are waiting for. Maybe it is just a timing thing.
Yes @FanOfFootball , it took several days for my “application complete” date to register even after it showed that all my materials were received. Hang tight!
Still having Coalition Application issues, although the first one has finally been resolved :))
@treschicos Are all 5 of those short answer questions required? And are there any other writing questions? We still cannot see Maryland specific questions. Thanks so much! Son is so busy with other apps, classes and sport, and UMD is lower priority, although we are hoping he can get it in by 11/1. Otherwise it is pointless due to need for merit aid.
Appalachymom Yes, all 5 short answers are mandatory. The only other 2 are the 500 word essay and a resume/list of extracurriculars & interests, even though Son has already filled out the latter in Coalition App.
Also I hate the coalition app. Counselors, teacher, and student don’t know how to use it. We had to do it because MD won’t take any other way, but not a fan!
@treschicos My S18 is giving up on UMD and the Coalition App. The school was a low priority (OOS) and working with the app was just too difficult and ridiculously time consuming. I guess this is one way to pare down the list :))
He never even got to the stage where his HS had to be involved. That would have been an issue too.
@appalachymom Don’t blame you for giving up. My S was filling out the activities section on Monday and the site crashed and he lost his info. Definitely wished UMD used the common app.
My daughter gave up on UMD because of the Coalition App. Not only was it very difficult to figure out but it is very geared toward private school students with more accessible guidance counselors to assist and recommenders that already have accounts (even the two step process of sending an invitation to create account before an invitation to recommend/send can be sent info is a significant barrier for many). I do not know how colleges think this app “improves access”.
