Mascot Question - Essay or Short Response?

So, I'm really confused. The question on the supplement about changing the mascot SEEMS like an essay to me, but the text box only allows 500 CHARACTERS. That's really short. But they also allow you to upload a document if you want.

Are you writing an essay, or more of a short response?

I put down a ‘top 5 reasons’ list. Try to make it quirky and specific to Grinnell as it is the only valuable Grinnell supp (the other is primarily for research purposes I think). I first chose ‘Grinnell Squirrel’ but that would be too obvious so I switched to another one.

Hope that helps.

The squirrel is really funny though. I’ve never seen bigger ones.

this was such a great question. Quirky questions in the application and / or interview only raise our estimation of the schools we’re looking at.

do you know if you can go over the 500 character limit if you upload a document?

There is no physical limitation to your uploaded document (it won’t cut off words when yours exceeds 500 words) but in general try not to write more than the word limit (if you do, it should not be more than 10% of the limit).
