Hello,
I am a 3rd year civil/environmental engineering student in a Canadian university.
As I’m finishing up my 3rd year, I am currently planning on going to do a Masters.
Upon talking to few professors (who did their Ph.Ds at the States), they think I have good chance with getting into top programs both in Canada and the U.S.
However, they are skeptical on whether I would be funded in the States.
Personally, I don’t mind living in Canada upon graduation, but I thought studying at top notch research groups in the States would be a great opportunity.
Assuming I do not get any funding for the States, do you think the extra tuition+living is worthwhile for me to go to the States?
My parents are saying they can help me out if I REALLY want to go, but I would prefer not to burden them.
No, not really, not unless you definitely plan on living in the States and none of the engineering programs in Canada are good/well-reputed in U.S. companies. It also depends on the schools you get accepted to - it might be worth it to pay for an MS in engineering at Stanford or MIT, but not necessarily at Salem State or something, you know?
