Masters in Biomedical Engineering: Berkeley/UCSF MTM, or Columbia Masters in BME?

Hi everyone. I am trying to decide where to go for my masters. I've narrowed my choices down to the UC Berkeley/UCSF Masters in Translational Medicine program, and the Columbia Masters in Biomedical Engineering program.

I'm leaning towards the MTM program, but I was wondering if anyone who has experience with either program had any advice/things for me to consider.

Thanks!

I’ve heard good things (generally) about the MTM program.

A few of my friends in the program seem to like it, though they typically complain about the commute (especially friends that TA classes at Berkeley right after/before a class in UCSF). Also, I’ve heard they’re going to be quite strict about getting everyone out in ~1 year from now on.

Congrats though, you’ve got two great choices. How much is the price difference between the two? (Still waiting on Columbia here, currently debating between CMU and anywhere else I happen to get into)

Thanks! Yeah, when I first found out about the MTM program I was really excited because it’s exactly the type of work I want to be doing.

Out of curiosity, do you know where your friends in the program live? Half the classes are at UCB, other half are in UCSF, and I’m not too sure if it would be better to live in Berkeley or SF next year, if I choose this program. I’m used to the strict “out of here in 1 year” thing, because I’m doing my undergrad at Berkeley, and the engineering department has a strict “out of here in 4 years” policy.

Glad to hear you got into CMU, and good luck on Columbia and the others!

Not too sure, I think it’s split. I’d imagine many of the people who went to Berkeley as undergrads will continue living in Berkeley while some/many of those from out of Berkeley would live in the city.

Could be totally off though.

And thanks, I think I’m pretty set on CMU. Best of luck with your MS!

Hi!

I know this post was from a while ago, but I was wondering if you could share your accomplishments and what you did in your undergrad.
I am very interested in the MTM program, but cannot find much information on how to look more competitive in order to be accepted.

And did you choose the MTM program in end? If you did, can you share your experiences?

Thank you
