Masters of Chemical Engineering

I am currently a Chemistry BS major but I am interested in chemical engineering. I am unsure if I want to pursue a Ph.D in ChemE/Chem so instead I was looking at terminal ChemE masters degrees. What are some of the best ChemE masters programs available in the Northeast? It’s hard to find programs which offer terminal degrees

So are you changing to a chem eng BS first? You are a approaching the end of your soph year as a chem undergrad. have you assessed all the classes you need for eng?

No, I intend on majoring in chemistry with a mathematics minor (my school doesn’t offer engineering). I just am not sure what are some of the best terminal ChemE programs in the northeast

How are you defining a terminal degree in engineering that’s substantially different from a typical MS?

By terminal I mean a M.S. in ChemE. I just realized I didn’t mention masters … but that’s what I mean

Then I don’t understand why you say it’s hard to find a chemical engineering department offering a terminal MS degree.

You may have to take engineering classes in order to start an MS in engineering.

There are plenty of MS programs which accept anyone from a STEM background, not just those with a BS in ChemEng. They will usually require you to take some type of remedial coursework in engineering at their school, which will extend the time you will need to finish the degree as well as increase the overall cost.

There are also a few programs specifically targeted for applicants such as yourself, including Columbia’s Scientist to Engineer program: https://cheme.columbia.edu/master-science-program-0

In other words, it’s completely doable, just more expensive and time-consuming.
