Masters thesis vs non thesis

I am an engineering student thinking about eventually going for a Ph.D in engineering. Hence, which type of masters degree, thesis or non thesis, would be the most advantageous? As a side note, I do not have any previous research experience.

thanks

It's going to vary by department and school. MS Thesis is a relatively rare option here, but those that do and wish to go on to a PhD may reuse their MS thesis as part of their proposal which cuts down on a lot of preparation time.

I suppose on your case an MS thesis might be advantageous because you don't even really know if research is right for you. Convincing a professor to take you on might be interesting though.

If you want a PhD eventually, you really do need to do a MS w/ thesis in order to get some research under your belt. Otherwise it will be very difficult to be admitted to a PhD program.
