MAT16A Textbook ISBN messed up?

I’m taking MAT16A. I used the UC Davis Bookstore to locate the book I need for this class. I copied and pasted the ISBN (both the 13 digit and the standard one on separate tries) and pasted the ISBN into multiple book rental websites. Only one website found it, and it’s insisting that the book with that ISBN is really something about humanities. o_O

So - what’s the story about this? Why doesn’t the suggested book for my course exist anywhere other than the Davis Bookstore? I really want to rent, but is that asking too much? :P

It’s making me wonder if the UC Davis Bookstore makes mistakes, or if the fact it says “custom” in the book’s title = exclusively through Davis.

Should I buy a $100 used one from the Bookstore, wait until the first day of class to hear which book I officially need, find it some other way… ?

Advice!

all the information the bookstore gives me:

CALCULUS CUSTOM
Author LARSON
Edition/Copyright 7TH
Published Date NA
ISBN 9781424080199
No picture…

It’s probably because it is a custom edition. I’ve been looking for the same textbook elsewhere as well. I’d suggest emailing your professor to see if it’s okay to get a non-custom or older edition if you want the book asap! :3

yeah this was addressed in another thread, but generally custom books are nearly the same except chapters are rearranged or omitted. in most cases, you should be fine with the non custom book, but it never hurts to ask your professor

WAit wait wait how do you guys find out what books you need for each class?! Help a sista outttt

For me, I just used http://ucdavisbookstore.com/SelectTermDept.aspx</a> & typed in my CRNs to find the lists. There’s also the option of going to SmartSite or emailing your professor. :3
