Match-me for engineering schools

Its offered but the teacher didn’t like me much so didn’t recommend me for it although I have a 95% in my pre cal math hons! I decided to do it own my own. I Have already take AP physics and AP bio and will take Ap com sci and Ap chem Ap French and Ap stats next year.

I have put Purdue in my list but hadn’t considered Michigan Tech

I do love Mexican food

What do you mean?

According to Maryland’s Common Data Set (CDS) 93.6% of admitted students have a 4.0. That’s pretty unlikely, especially considering they have big time athletics, without them weighting a GPA for honors, AP, IB, etc.

I agree. UMD looks at distribution of grades and considers GPA heavily. Also engineering is a limited enrollment program there. OOS for UMD can be unpredictable, so it’s more of a “who knows, but give it a good try” . Definitely apply EA by Nov .1 if considering UMD, as the LEP programs fill up.

It may or may not be too late - can you take AP Calc BC senior year to have it on your high school record? Can your parents override the teacher “non-recommendation”? Otherwise, it would be hard to justify such a gaping math hole in your transcript. Of course, if this is not possible at this late date, then move on, but I feel it’s worth exploring.

Here’s my detailed reasoning as to why this may be at least worth considering: I am not sure you can count on a school counselor’s letter to substantiate the reason that you have stated for not being able to take the school’s Calc BC . And self-study and taking it somewhere else would not carry the same weight. Keep in mind you are competing with others who have all this on their high school transcripts. Again, if it’s not possible to change your schedule, then move on and work with what you have.

What was your math course for junior year? AP Stats is considered an elective, and not a strong main math course for a STEM student aiming for competitive universities. Also, was the AP Physics 1 or AP Physics C? Does your school offer the latter?

Ap Physics C

I might consider Clarkson and RIT for in-state, they’re tech schools but they’re more in the likely range than match, where you figure RPI would be. Syracuse may also be another match to consider. You have a lot of good suggestions for reaches, it would just depend on what part of the country you want to focus, Purdue/UM/UIUC in midwest, Cornell/CMU/Tufts etc. for northeast, UCs/Mudd/Stanford in the west coast.

If your HS has Naviance find out how previous students did at the schools being mentioned, your GC could know as well.

Fwiw, they are #2, 8, 1, and 3 in the USNews ranking of Engineering programs that don’t offer a PhD.

Anyone looking beyond the top handful of PhD schools should incorporate these into their search.

Indeed, but that’s if they bother to dig that far. That list is a little odd too. When you dig into the constituent majors, CP ranks no worse than 3 in the 7 they rate and no worse than 2 in 5 of the 7. Yet, that somehow nets an overall 8. Even worse, HMC ranks 2nd in ME, a major they don’t offer! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
