I need some solid match schools and I’ve been having alot of trouble finding them. A match for me would be a college in the 40-50% acceptance rate range. The college also has to have a good deal of need based aid/loans for it to be affordable.
Most of my schools are either safeties or low-medium-high reaches. No matches though, it seems very few colleges have a 40 ish acceptance rate.
I know of Stevens (38%) and RPI (38%). They are unaffordable unfortunately.
If anyone can find something I would be really appreciative.
It is not the acceptance rate you look at but the mid-50% of stats for admitted students that is important. Go to each school’s website and search “Common Date Set”. A match school would be one where your stats put you in the mid-50& range.
I really don’t want a chance me post. I’m working on my scores and essays and EC’s etc. I just wanted to find schools that were affordable and in the 40% acceptance rate range.
FAFSA EFC is 0
Institutional is 7-11k
Basically my parents can’t pay anything for college
I live in PA
I can’t afford PSU so don’t mention it. I really don’t want to get in 140k worth of debt.
And also my stats can give me a good shot most schools in the upper forties, so that’s really irrelevant.
Penn state gives out TERRIBLE aid. No matter how low income you are you’ll be paying a fortune (20-30k). I cannot afford it. Penn state doesn’t give out good aid, its a publicly funded school.
My gpa is 4.18 W 4.0 UW
Act is 30 but it’s still in the works. I’ve been prepping, there’s a chance I’ll get a 34.
I have about average EC’s , a few things that might make me stand out
URM
Low income
Is that enough info?
PSU is exaclty the kind of college I’m talking about.
I’m in the 50% for RPI and 50-75 for Stevens with a 30. Which I’ve found to be common with the 40-50 acceptance rate range. Acceptance rates correlate to scores typically.
PSU, RPI, and Stevens are great examples of match schools but they are unaffordable.
Is there anything out there like them that gives out better aid?
Going OOS will be difficult if you don’t have the funds or tippy toppy scores.
Look for schools that will fund your education like LACs and instate colleges.
The only ones that do that are top universities. I am applying to a few but they are so hard to get into- i need safeties/matches that meet 100 percent need
[Note I don’t wan’t chances, I’m not even halfway done with testing, after scores are finalized and the apps are in then I’ll ask for chances.]
Are there any?
Swarthmore is SUPER hard to get into. Bucknell isnt easy, neither is Haverford.
They all give outstanding aid but have ivy like acceptance rates. I want safeties/matches.
Any good public or LAC schools that meet full need and have a respectable comp sci program and are moderately selective? that would be ideal.
Check out Colleges that Change Lives schools - your GPA would make you a competitive admit for many of them. Clark University came to mind, although I don’t know about their CS program. www.ctcl.org
If your ACT does not go up meaningfully (and that’s a very respectable score, BTW), you could look at test optional schools - www.fairtest.org
