Materials Engineering vs. Chemistry

I am a physics major at Iowa State University. I have decided to change my major to either chemistry or materials engineering. I have taken upper level physics cources such as Classical Mechanics and Modern Physics; I have also taken Calculus I, II, and III and Differential Equations. The physics and math cources that I am in now are way over my head. In the past, I have not been able to get a good grade in a physics or math class without making studying the only thing I ever do. I realize chemistry and materials engineering are difficult majors as well, but they are not as difficult as physics. I feel that if I choose one of these majors, I can work hard but still have a life outside of school.
I would like to ask what degree would be more useful? With chemistry, I know I would have to at least get a masters degree in chemical engineering or materials science to be employable while I can just get a job with a four year degree in materials engineering. I am fine with going to graduate school if I need to. I enjoy both chemistry and physics and realize that Materials engineering is a combination of both. Any comments about chemistry vs. Materials Engineering would be greatly appreciated.
