<p>I need to take MatS 3011 so that I can apply to get into materials science, but I need a permission code. I usually am able to get the permission code but this class is necessary to get into my major, and it appears that a lot of students have already registered. I've already e-mailed the instructors, and they've put me on a waitlist. As it is, because I switched my major, I already have to spend a 5th year and I really don't want to spend a 6th. Has anyone had any other successful method to get a permission number? </p>

<p>Hi, quirky. I’m a MatSE junior at UMN. Sorry to hear about your troubles registering for the course…the department’s growing at a ridiculous rate and, unfortunately, your difficulties don’t surprise me. </p>
<p>Also, Laura Erickson is a very helpful administrative-type within the CEMS department, and might be worth e-mailing. If you’re pre-MatS, I’d like to think she might be able to help you out. Good luck.</p>
<p>Hi Pandamoanium, I’d already talked to Laura and she told me that they’re giving priority to CSE students now; before they’d give the permission numbers from what I’ve heard. There are almost no seats left in MatS 3011 so I’ll probably switch to another major; I’m considering computer science. Thanks for your advice.</p>
