So I'm a sophomore, and thought i'd give the math subject tests a whirl. I took the real SAT back in October, and got an 800 on math, so I thought I'd do great... However I didn't. I got a 750 on math 1, and a 770 on math 2. Could anyone interpret these and tell me if they are good or bad or what? I want to go to Dartmouth, so what scores do they like to see? SHould I retake? Thanks!

Your scores are fine. I wouldn’t bother sending Math 1 though, since Math 2 is regarded more highly, and your score is better.

Yea, I wouldn’t bother with Math 1.

I feel like if you retook Math 2 as a junior having learned pre-calc, you would get an 800. If you have other SAT Subject tests to take late junior year, consider adding on the Math 2. The scale is quite lenient (~8 blank and still 800).

If you’re done with subject tests, I wouldn’t worry as 770 is still a fantastic score.

Im actually in BC calc this year…

I would send both math 1 and 2 to colleges because most colleges like to see 3 subject test though they are not required

It would not help much by sending in both Math1 and Math2, even if you meet the requirement of 2 subject tests. Indeed, you are only sending in 2 levels of tests for 1 subject. If I were in the admission office, I’ll put other applicants with SAT2 scores from 2 different subjects at higher priority.

you might want to retake Math 2 - 770 is a little low.

^^No it isn’t low!! When did a 770 become low???

You got a good Math2 score. Send that to any college on this planet. I agree with pyflask.

Don’t bother about the Math1 score. Don’t use it.

^ lol 800 is ~85% percentile for Math 2.
i guess if you don’t plan to go into math/sciences, you’ll be fine(:

People like you who are obsessed with 800s, 2400s and 4.0s are making CC somewhat unrealistic! Please I don’t want to debate or fight now! 770 is a very good score. Your comment tells that all the math/science dept’s of top schools are filled with “perfect” Math students–you are wrong there!.

Unlike 2400 for SAT1 which has less than 0.1% chance, SAT2 Math2 800 has around 10% chance. The 90th percentile for SAT1 is around 2000. 770 in Math2 is around 84 percentile, while 84 percentile for SAT1 is around 1900.

What about Math 1? Should I retake that?

No, I wouldn’t for sure. Just don’t send it, because it won’t help you very much anyway, especially if you retake Math 2 for an 800.
