I have one math problem that I don't understand, and a writing one I'm not quite sure about!

These are both from test number 2 of the FIRST Blue Book.

Math === Section 6, number 18:
18. If the 5 cards shown above are placed in a row that that (card C) is never at either end, how many different arrangements are possible?

The card arrangement shows 5 different cards, with a card I called "C" in the middle.
So it's like this:
A B C D E

The answer is 72. Can someone explain to me how to do these?
I've always sucked at probability/permutations/combination/whatever problems.
Any help is appreciated :)

Writing === Section 7, number 16:
16. [ALONG] the curve of islands known as the Florida Keys [LIES] a reef of living coral, [THE ONLY ONE] of [A KIND] in the continental United States.

I put no error, but the answer is that the "[A KIND]" part is wrong.
Is it supposed to be...
"...of [ITS KIND]"? Or what?

Thanks guys!
