Math Answer "Cannot be determined from the given information"

I often come across this option in the math portion, usually when there is a diagram given. Does anyone have a guesstimate as to when this answer is the correct answer to the question? 1/5 of the time, etc?

Almost never. It might maybe one a test, but it rarely ever is the answer. It’s a weed out question used to weed out kids who don’t know certain rules (particularly geometry theorems that involve the angles of a shape). You can almost always figure out the answer. It’s the ACT’s way of trying to get kids to solve a problem that requires a more in depth math knowledge.

let’s just say iv’e taken at least 15 tests and this has never been this answer. It may be rarely.

It happened to me once when I took the SAT in my senior year. The question was something like this, “A school has 2000 students. 60% of the students are female. 10% of the students in the school can speak Chinese. How many females in the school speak Chinese?”

Alright, thanks everyone!
