Can anyone tell me about the math program/students/culture at Bucknell? Son is interested in math (probably pure math), likes chess but is otherwise very mainstream, fairly straight and narrow type. Would a non-drinker fit in?

A mainstream fairly straight and narrow kid could fit in at Bucknell. What does HE think? You posted this question at a bunch of LACs.

The best way for him to know is to own the process himself.

Actually I only posted to 3 or 4 LACs not a bunch, and each was for a very specific reason. The ones selected were schools that my son and I have discussed. He has been doing his own research on cc and other places.

I think he needs to know what a school is like before he decides to visit it as expenses to visit every prospective college on a list is prohibitive. But thank you for your response.

Please do try and visit the schools. Many of the LACs are similar on paper and getting feedback from a few people can help
but
the gut feeling that your son will get is only from spending time there and wandering around with potential classmates

I have a junior daughter there, a math major, quiet and to herself but really likes the school. Remember, while Bucknell does have an active social and party scene, there are a lot of serious students there, in particular the engineers who put studies first. Have your son do an overnight - they have that program in April. If you want, I can put him in touch with my daughter, she has been a tour guide there. That experience changed her forever, forced her to come out of her shell. Even quiet ones find a place there.
