Hey All - wanted to check in and take a poll of certain incoming STEM students.
One of my bigger regrets going into school (I’m fresh out) was not having a rock solid proof-based maths background going into some really tough programs. Candidly, I think it cost my major of choice and a few ticks of the GPA.
Do students still feel that way? No? Yes? If so, what do. you about it?
Why do you think that math, CS, or physics majors need to have what is ordinarily considered college junior level math in high school?
https://catalogs.northwestern.edu/undergraduate/arts-sciences/mathematics/mathematics-major/ indicates that Northwestern University’s math major is suitable for students who start in single variable calculus. Of course, some students start in more advanced courses.
