The colleges I'm considering applying to recommend the Math II exam, but math is my weakest subject. I just don't think I would score more than 710. I'm much better at English, but will my application take a hit for not having taken Math II?

Essentially, is it better to score lower on the recommended Math II exam, or take the Lit test and score higher?

Taking Lit and scoring higher would be better, especially considering that many people get 800s on Math II. However, if you want to go into a math heavy field like engineering then you should be taking math II, but I’m guessing you’re not going into engineering or something math heavy since that would require math skills, and math II wouldn’t be a problem.

However, although you’re good at English, I hope you realize the Lit SAT II is considered the hardest SAT II, and many avid readers who do well in English class don’t even do well on it. Taking a College Board released practice test would be the best way to see where you stand.

If you’re not scoring well on either, go with the one you do better on.

Yes, in addition to Lit having a terrible curve and being difficult, it is also the hardest Subject Test to study for; you’re either good at it or you’re not. Hopefully, you’ll have enough background through AP Lang / AP Lit, but like the above poster said, take a practice test and see how you fare.

I did pretty well on the mini practice test on the SAT website; I didn’t miss any. I haven’t had the chance to take a full practice test yet, but I will do so this weekend.
