math major UCLA VS NYU

One of the seniors in UCLA told me that UCLA's math major is one of its strongest majors and can compete with MIT in a way. However, one of my classmates who was also admitted by NYU said that NYU's math major was TOP 10 among undergraduate schools. I don't know which one tell the truth so if u have any idea please tell me. In addition, I am intended to study business in my graduate degree. So which one do U think is better for me.

Choose the college where you like best. NYU might not seem as closely knit as UCLA because NYU lacks a traditional campus. UCLA has great sunny weather all around the year where as NYU can get really cold over the winter. The rankings are neglible between UCLA and NYU for math.

I think they are comparable. It’s like splitting hairs. Some schools are better in certain areas of math like I’ve read UCSD is better than UCLA in combinatorial logic theory math(??). So you need to narrow down the areas of math to get more help.
BTW, I do hang out the grad café and get more inside information about math and CS.
But from what I’ve gather here is a rough ranking for top 10. Roughly top 10 in math are Princeton, MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Harvard, Berkely, Chicago, Michigan, UCLA, Yale, NYU

It depends where you live. If you are a resident of California, UCLA make the most sense from a cost standpoint considering how closely they are ranked. If you live in the east, it may come down to how close you want to stay to home. I don’t think you can make a bad choice academically.

BUMP Same Situation UCLA vs NYU … full costs so UCLA costs 55k while NYU costs 65k

Do you know your areas of interest?

Algebra / Number Theory / Algebraic Geometry
Analysis
Applied math
Discrete Mathematics and Combinatorics
Geometry
Logic

Like someone mentioned, UCLA and NYU are like splitting hairs. Both schools are known more for “applied” math than pure math.

BUMP. What about computer science? Same choices
