I know SB has a great reputation in Math and probably attracts top-notch students. Any idea what type of Math SAT the math department would be looking for?

Thanks.

There’s no specific minimum SAT for the math department; they fall under the same general requirements as most of the other programs.

I should rephrase the question, and you probably wouldn’t know the answer.

I should have asked - what math SAT score would indicate that you could do well in what is known as a prestigious and challenging math department?

In my opinion, SAT scores is a poor indicator of how well you will perform as a math major. College level mathematics is very different from the type of math tested on the SAT. The SAT tests very basic high school math. It’s mostly about problem solving. College level math, on the other hand, deals with proofs. While the majority of math majors have high SAT math scores, having high SAT math scores does not mean you’ll do well in college math. If you enjoy problem solving rather than proofs, then you should look into the Applied Math & Statistics major. It isn’t as proof-intensive as pure math. In either case, if your SAT math score is below 600, then maybe you should consider a less math-intensive major like economics or computer science.
