Hi, everyone. I'm a rising Vanderbilt freshmen and am wondering how tough the placement test is to get credit for Math 175 (Multivariable Calculus). I took a dual enrollment course in Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra senior year of high school, but I was not able to earn credit for Math 175 unfortunately because the course was taught at our high school and not at an actual college campus. However, our teacher was pretty rigorous and I want to at least try to place out of the course (I'm planning on majoring in Chemical Engineering so I would need to take Math 198 after Math 175) and I'm just wondering about the difficulty of the placement exam. Thank you.

There are very few people who have taken that test so you probably won’t find much info.

Assuming you just as far as flux and whatnot you should be fine.

There is no placement test for Math 175. Instead, if you are in Arts and Sciences, you can receive Credit by Examination for some courses, including math courses. See the catalog for details. You would take the Math 175 final exam at the end of the semester in a classroom with other students who enroll for the entire course. Your grade on the final will be the grade for your transcript.

However, the School of Engineering is generous with credit earned elsewhere. If you received college credit for your dual enrollment courses, Engineering will accept that credit. Check with an academic counselor in the office of the Dean, School of Engineering, for the details.
