Hello! Right now I am in Geometry, and have an A. I am in eighth grade. I am very interested in studying Algebra 2 over the summer, and if it's possible Trigonometry also. If I completed both, I would like to go straight into AP Calculus AB. My courses so far for next year are the following:

Advanced Government/Geography (Necessary, highest possible course)
Pre-AP Chemistry (Highest possible course)
Advanced Literature (Highest Possible course)
Gym - Mandatory
Math - Hoping for AP Calculus AB
Spanish 4 CE (Taken at a college near by for college and high school credit)
AP Computer Programming (Java- I have taken previous summer courses in different launguages)

I am also going to take a study hall second semester, to manage the workload.

Dude slow your role. I took geometry in eighth grade and got A’s just like you, but you really need to space out your math courses. You’re saying that you could learn 2 years of math in two months. I don’t care how smart you are you will lose out in the long run. Most difficult things in calculus are the algebra and trig and these are things that are hit hard in AP calc AB.
As far as getting placed into calculus you would need to do more than just study algebra, you would need to get high school credit or take a test at your school that shows your proficiency in the subject. You need to check with your future school to see their policy about this, but most schools will take FLVS or some equivalent programs credits
If you really want to get ahead take algebra 2 online but save trig/precal for school. Algebra 2 is not a huge leap from algebra 1, but trig is a lot less intuitive because the trig identities can get especially strange.

I partly disagree with jimmyboy23; you can pretty easily learn trig in a few weeks if you are motivated and learn well. However, rushing through the standard math curriculum can backfire if you don’t really understand the concepts (for example, memorizing trig identities without any knowledge why they’re true). I’ve tutored calculus students before who had very little algebra or trig background, which really hurts.

I agree with jimmyboy, if ur will was super strong, then i guess u could take AlgII over the summer but I would def not suggest taking AP until atleast 10. I’m also in the same track as u (took Geo in 8 Alg in 9, precal 10 (Now) BC (next year)). Now i dont know u and for all i know ur the super smart kid who could handle doing what u could do, but even if u are smart, rushing two year long classes over one summer to take an AP isn’t smart. I’d atleast take Precal/Trig at school and then move onto AB

Perosnally, i would reccomend taking both AlgII and Trig in school (9 and 10) and then move onto AB/BC (11), but if u have the dedication take AlgII online in the summer max, dont try to cram two classes between one summer, because u would be russhing big time, also out of curiosity why do u want to take AP so early?

If you learn alg+ precalc in 2 months, although you can spit back facts, you don’t have an understanding, which will hamper you in the long run.
