Math Problem from Collegeboard SAT book

3,5,-5,...

The first term in the sequence of numbers above is 3. Each even-numbered term is 2 more than the previous term, and each odd-numbered term (after the first) is -1 times the previous term. Ex: the 2nd term is 3+2, and the 3rd term is (-1) times 5. What is the 55th term in this sequence?

a) -5
b) -3
c) -1
d) 3
e) 5

The answer is a(-5), but every time I try this problem I come up with 3. Any help?

umm, this is in the consolidated book of BB math problems stickied above, but here's the solution anyways you bum.

Write out the terms and you should get
3, 5, -5, -3, 3, 5, -5, -3,

Notice that the pattern repeats itself every 4 terms.
How many times does 4 go into 55? 13 times with a remainder of 3
what's the third term? The Answer -5.

^ditto
