Agreed that those are all good. I don't have a comparison between any of those and SUMaC.

I'll PM you.

Can you PM me too?

ya can u PM me too counting down?

could you pm me too about the math programs?

me three ... lol
PleaSe!

I went to SUMaC in 2006. Great program, lots of individual attention. Everyone lives in the same house, so there's lots of interaction and support.
I went to PROMYS in 2007. Longer than SUMaC, and more intense for me. I've never worked so hard in my life (I liked it, though). Guys and girls are in separate towers, so there is less interaction. The student to counselor ratio is smaller, so more individual attention. Lots of freedom, so you can basically explore Boston on your own without signing out.
Which camp you go depends on what you're interested in. Both are great programs. Feel free to ask me if you want more information.

More information please

How smart do you need to be at math?

Sophomore what math level (ex. pre calc)

The math at math summer programs is somewhat different from standard curriculum math, and not everyone who goes to a math program is particularly advanced in the (too slow) standard curriculum in the United States. See

The Calculus Trap

for more about this. But if you like math, and in some cases are willing to work for a few days on some application problems that mostly require THINKING rather than lots of background, you might really like a math summer program.

I like math and I'm ok at it (self studied Calc BC as sophomore, got 5) did Mathcounts and all that stuff. I'm interested in going to USA Mathcamp but I was wondering just exactly what caliber are the people there? If it's mainly for perfect AIME scorers and USAMO qualifiers, people who will research in math one day etc. then it's definitely not for me, plus I don't have any of that stuff.

I tried the qualifying quiz from last year though and I was able to do some of the problems. Should I apply?

um. lol. there are only about 3 AIME perfect scorers a year btw, so no.

if you want to go, then apply. because you'll probably get in, it's not too hard to get in.

Info on HCSSiM:
http://www.hcssim.org/
If you aren't into the math competition prep thing, this is a place for quirky people who like their math. They have an "Interesting Test" which one completes as part of the application process and will give you an idea as to the level of the work they do.

I am applying to SUMAC. Does anyone else think the majority of the problems are not too hard? I just dont understand what #4 is asking. Can anyone tell me what it is asking? DONT TELL ME THE ANSWER OR I WILL KILL YOU....

I've been looking into the Promys program and I'm really interested in it, so I'm probably going to apply for it this year.
For people that have gone before, did a lot of you apply through the ARML application? and the scholarships for that, would it be dependent upon how well you did on the ARML test?

Also, has anyone had experience with the Rutger's Young Scholars Program?

The ARML meet isn't until June (when do teams form in your town?), so ARML news comes late for everyone. I would just apply through the usual channel, applying for financial aid as needed, and then see what happens at the ARML meet.

I am also concerned with the number 4...

The others are pretty easy!

Do you think SUMAC is overpriced? Do you think it is worth it?
