math question, fuctions shifting (quadratic and cubic)

If i had an equation say...f(x)=x^2+4x
and wanted to graph f(x-2), then the graph would be the exact same shape but shift to the right right?

Does this rule apply with cubic functions also?
If...f(x)=x^3+4x+3
and wanted to graph f(x+2), then the graph would shift to the left? correct?

If i am right...can someone explain why

Yes.

Purplemath has a wonderful section on transforming functions.
