Helloo. I’m an international student who wants to apply for the Huntsman Program in UPenn since I think it fits into my interests pretty well. I’m taking the IBDP and am confused whether to do Math at a higher level or standard level so that I’m up to the mark for Math requirements. I’m good at math (I got a 97% in 10th grade) but I don’t really enjoy it and I’ve heard HL Math is really hard so I’m not keen on it. What should I do?
Huntsman, and really Wharton in general, places a heavy emphasis on calculus, aka they care that you’re very proficient in mathematics. Your best bet, in terms of acceptance, is to continue to challenge yourself with the highest level math you can. However, if you don’t think higher level math is worth the effort, then you should re-evaluate your fit for Huntsman, because, as you said, “HL Math is really hard” and it’s an integral part of the program. You won’t be able to take full advantage of its opportunities if you don’t enjoy math.
