Math SAT Question Help

In a class of 78 students 41 are taking French, 22 are taking German. Of the students taking French or German, 9 are taking both courses. How many students are not enrolled in either course?

Hm, I’ve always had trouble with questions like this. How would i approach it? Is there a general way to do it for variations of this question? Thanks

Is the answer 24?
I think you can use Venn diagram or just caculate 78-(41+22-9) =24
Hope it can help.

Yes It is!
And I got it. Apparently, it’s as simple as total = (French only + German only + Both + Neither)

Yeah, that’s the point!
So great that you see it
