Math4C to take Math20A?

I’m an incoming freshman and my major is Biochem/chemistry
Math isn’t really my thing and in high school I took the AP Calc exam and scored a 1

And on the MPE I got this:
• For enrollment into the Math 20 series:
4C
You must successfully complete Math 4C before enrolling in Math 20A.

• For enrollment into the Math 10 series:
10A ok, review
You may enroll in Math 10A, but you are strongly encouraged to review the pre-calculus topics listed below.

• For enrollment into the Math 18 series:
Math 18 ok
You may enroll in Math 18 with no further preparation.

So I’m starting to plan my classes and from what I understand is that I need to take the Math20 series to satisfy my major… but I can’t even enroll into it because I need to take Math4C? And if I were to enroll into Math4C would that make me behind in some way?

Yes, enrolling in 4C would put you behind, but only by a quarter. So, if you wanted to catch up by your sophomore/second year, you could take 20C Summer quarter 2017. I’ve seen a lot of people who need the 20 series and they were placed in 3C. You are good!
