Mathematics of Economics vs. Mathematics of Finance

I am a current UMich student who is considering an Economics and Financial Math double concentration, but recently became aware of a mathematics of Economics degree option. Is anyone familiar with the difference of the 2 and what choosing between these two will change in terms of a career aspect. Thanks in advance for your time and quality responses.

What you’re thinking of is Math Sciences with the focus in Economics.

In terms of career aspects, I doubt there’ll be any impact. In terms of academic requirements Math Sciences should be more flexible with what you can take, but the requirements are different so you should check both and see which classes seem more interesting to you. As you start taking classes you might decide that the ones you thought would be interesting aren’t but it’s easy to switch between the two.
