Anybody putting down more than one non-refundable deposit because undecided? Any negatives to this besides non-refundable? Thank you.
It is generally considered to be OK to have multiple deposits before May 1 IF there is a need to deposit early in order to guarantee space in the residence halls at places that have early priority for that.
However, it is generally considered to not be OK to hold spaces at more than one place after May 1. There are very rare situations related to projected changes in family finances, or the health of a family member that may require a student to stay closer to home that some people find acceptable reasons for holding onto two options until late in the summer. Flat-out indecision is not generally considered to be a good enough reason to hold onto more than one option past May 1. If you truly cannot decide, you can communicate with each of the places that are still in the running, and ask for an extension of the reply date. Some will give you an extension.
