Can anyone show me a link to where it says that low farm prices were the indication of bad economy before 1929?

I remember one of the answer choices for Prohibition was lack of Federal funding. How come this isn't the correct answer?

I took a practice test in the college board or princeton review book and that question was verbatim for the import answer.

FOr mail-order catalogs: was it small town merchant/shopkeepers or small business owners

Because it was an EXCEPT question and it is true that there was a shortage of federal funding for the Volstead act.

"Soon after the war ended, however, international food demand
plummeted as European production started to recover, and U.S.
farm prices fell sharply. In response, farm leaders began laying
out a proposal for a national program to support farm prices by
controlling domestic supplies and using exports to absorb sur-
pluses. Although Presidential vetoes held off the program during
the 1920’s, Congress twice passed measures providing for direct
government intervention to lift farm prices by controlling sup-
plies. The Federal government did implement some programs to
regulate markets and to improve farm credit, but the limited
intervention had little effect in improving the farm economy.

Low prices and consequent low farm incomes of the 1920’s and
early 1930’s had been the result of surpluses created by sharply
reduced global and domestic demand, beginning with Europe’s
return to normal production after World War I and followed by
the international economic depression of the 1930’s."

Okaygogodoll, nevermind, I think that you are right. Does anyone know what a -5 is on the USH test?

^^So to sum it all up, the CORRECT answer to the economy before the 1929 is................?

I do know for a fact that the farmers were not part of 1920's prosparity... pretty sure it was the answer...

I put small merchants for that worker poster thing

Exceutive privlidge to withhold info for nixon

Cambodia caused kent

Indians wanted to stop american westward movement...

Anyone remmeber the answer to the northern cotton factories intially starting (was an except)

I put extensive railroad networks... i didn't think they had railroads when those factories initially started...

mail order catalogs: i put small town shopkeepers

is.......low farm prices in the 1920s.

i think a -5 is a 780+. According the Princeton Review, theres a good curve on this test.

small merchants i'm pretty sure the business owner ur thinking of wasn't worded as "small businesses" it was another adjective that made me put shopkeepers/merchants

wow, 1 wrong and 1 blank so far... thats an 800 right?

"Anyone remmeber the answer to the northern cotton factories intially starting (was an except)

I put extensive railroad networks... i didn't think they had railroads when those factories initially started..."

I put the Embargo of 1807, but the more I think about that, the more I think it is wrong.

Embargo act... i think that would cause it so the north had to make its own factories..

However i am not sure and just using logic for that.. wasn't sure if the dates matched up or stuff...

If we can get a date on initial cotton factories starting in north we can see...

I really don't think extensive railroads were around until mid 1800's...

For those of you who have taken this test more than once, would you consider this easier, harder, or the same difficulty as other tests administered in the past?

it was the railroads because they were devloped in the 1820s and 30s

the answer was railroads... those didn't play a large role untill the 1850s.
At which time, they were the main source of revenue, right?

(skp21, the 20s were canals and steamboats.)

NJ student, I believe you are right. I was too stupid to think correctly on the real test :D

can someone please tell me whether or not this cartoon was on the test?

http://www.icomix.com/maze/ograbme.jpg

that wasn't on mine.

that cartoon was not on the test
