May 2010 SAT Results Thread

CR: 790
M: 760
W: 800 (80 mc + 11 essay)

2350

Absolutely nailed the writing, and I had thought my essay was 9 at best. A shade upset about the math because it’s usually my strongest subject and the CR because I had thought I got only one wrong. Really thought I had a 2400 coming my way… Oh well, 2350 is still amazing for anyone, let alone a sophomore taking it for the first time, according to everyone who has talked to me.

Should I bother retaking for the 2400 for ego’s sake?

^ definitely not because it’ll make colleges think that you have no life.

I’m not going to lie the MAY SAT was ridiculously easy compared to March.
In any case
I got a 184 on my PSAT
1670 on March —> I was very disappointed

Did not study at all…
and

CR 620 W 610 M 650. In total it is a 1880.

While 1880 is not a good score by any means, at-least I’m mentally satisfied. (I matched my PSAT).

I should start studying intensely. I could easily raise writing and CR by practicing from the BB. I could use some review in Math as well. I’m taking a PR course over the summer.

Planning to Take SAT final time in OCT of Senior year. I’m hoping for a 2100+.

Is the Oct SAT generally easy or ridiculously hard like March?

I’m tired of lurking and I want to jump in on the discussion.

Math: 780 <–100 points up from March! I really was having a bad day the first time I took it this year.
Writing: 790 (11 on the essay) <–40 points up from in March, and my essay went from an 8 to a 11.
Reading: 790 Same as in March.

Combined: 2360

I’m just so damn happy about my math score…Haha, my score in March was only FORTY points higher than the SAT I took in seventh grade, and I’m a junior now, so I was so appalled when I got my score back in March. This is like a redemption for me. XD

Score Choice.

2400!!!

Where do you find the essay and mc scores?

Is the October SAT hard at all? and I’m doing the other 9 practice tests in the blue book. I got an 1830 as a sophomore, I’m crushed.

No certain dates are predisposed to being more difficult.

What kind of preparation did you do? I recall (maybe I am confusing you with another poster, however) that you indicated that you thought a 2400 was possible for this test.

720 ON CR!!! I was soooo happy when I saw that!!

exactly a 2300 Super Score and I’m done with standardized tests once I take the SAT Bio in June = D

LOL and a 12 essay. Just icing on the cake = ).

… I made up all my exampes = D

Preparation - Read the CB book Religiously for the past 2 weeks, but this did conflict with my AP exam study. I was only able to take 1 practice test, so I see how that could affect the score.

I am sorry to hear that MITHopeful. I know that you expected big things from this test. I did too, and I ended up having my best section in practice drag me down. I had gotten a 780+ in writing in all practice tests and dipped to a staggering 580 this time. I got a 1920 composite, which is frustrating, but still I have 2 more times to take it. This time I have time to memorize some 3000-5000 vocab words, and I can do a super extensive writing prep.

Don’t get down on yourself, are you taking it again in October? I’d be thrilled to hear that you are. We can push each other to get higher scores.

I’d advise being a little more pragmatic about your scores. You seem to have had an expectation of a 2300+ and possibly a 2400, which would only exacerbate the disappointment of a much lower score.

^^ Yes, I am taking it again next october, start of junior year.

^ and Jersey, good advice, I’ll definitely try that approach.

MIT: Don’t be crushed; I (2nd in the class) took it with some of my sophomore friends (one of whom is 1st, another 5th, and the last is 9th in the class). The three of them are three of the smartest people I know, easily at or above me intellectually. None of them got above a 1910.

I tell you what I told them and everyone else: You get what you put into the SAT. I knew I wanted to take the SAT once and be done with it, so I prepared starting ~6 weeks ahead of time and diligently plodded through BB while reading tips from threads on CC. All my work paid off - 2350. None of the others put that much effort into it, and their scores reflected that. My 400+ point separation from my friends shows a discrepancy in our preparation, not our intelligence.

Same thing happened to you - you couldn’t/didn’t study; consequently, you didn’t achieve a desirable score. That’s not a reflection of your intelligence; it’s a reflection of your preparation. The SAT is to be gamed.

Study over the summer (presumably you have an abundance of free time?) then take the October SAT. There’s no reason you can’t get 2400.

Good luck!

(P.S. to everyone else - If you did well, congrats! If not, I know you can do better, because anyone can do better with enough work and dedication.)

I forgot to congratulate everyone on here as well, you guys are great. And thanks for all the advice, really.

Likewise, I congratulate everyone who is proud of his or her score.

Silverturtle, the lengths to which you go to ensure that your grammar is nothing short of impeccable never cease to amaze me ;)

^ thx alot

^Hilarious. Silverturtle is a CC staple; CC would be so different without him. I feel this at least.
