May SAT 2011: CR Section

^^ Agreed, it was definitely “credibility”.

What did you have for the one about whales - the question was something along the lines of "the author explains all of the following EXCEPT in his last paragraph:
I think I picked “how he became interested in whales.”

gsfan - I think you’re right. ■■■ I changed it from austere.

AimingforIvy - I’m almost positive it was credibility. It talked about her career as a whole if I recall correctly.

How about the question in the caves passage about how the scholars in the 2nd passage felt about a part of the first passage. There was an adjective followed by an explanation. Two of the options were “delighted, because…” and “frustrated because they already knew their meaning” (I think it was referring to something like the “grand reason”? for the cave art). I had frustrated.

clandarkfire - Agreed.

yeah i agree with asdf and clan

Bleh x_x
I was divided between austere and profligacy but chose profligacy.
Hopefully I still got an 800.
It was day and night that was blurred right?

i put

frustrated: the scholars were unhappy that the Grand Theory was still in question even when they knew the art was used to find out about early life

something like that^

Yeah, day and night.

@gsfan - Yeah that was my reasoning but the answer didn’t go that deeply into it. It just said frustrated because they also knew the meaning, or something short like that. The thing I was iffy on was if by “meaning” it meant specific meaning since all the scholars thought was that they were meaningful relics of the past; but they were still studying the art.

I may be incorrect though
So far:

I have missed:

The scholars and how they felt about the Grand Theory
The black girl and the river (in the singer passage)
One of the questions on the Jazz passage

I picked exuberant for the singer passage(idk if thats correct)

What does my score look like, assuming I got all else right?

oh well, hopefull only -2 so far

I put how he got interested in whales as well.

Any opinions on the Jazz and cave art questions I mentioned at the top of page 18?

one of the jazz questions (the second one) was that each person had a distinctive voice

gsfan: do you remember the other answers for that/the question? i remember that choice but i’m not sure if i put that in

Was his interest in whales mentioned in the last paragraph? Because the question referred to the last paragraph. I think I put the enjoyment or happiness he got from working with whales, I don’t think they mentioned that

@pch340
I’m pretty sure the enjoyment/happiness was implied with some of the words they used whereas how he became interested in studying whales wasn’t mentioned at all.

from some of your answers I believe the experimental reading is the one about Venice? Since everybody seems to have had Cave paintings, whales and the one about a girl and a concert

Is it true? I really hope the experimental was not the Venice one, that section was pretty easy compared to the long passage about a girl and a concert.

experimental was Venice, I didn’t have it.

@yoursky - One of the others had something to do with personal creativity.

@pch - It talked a lot about how he felt about going from experimental science to working with whales, and why the transition worked out for him. I don’t remember specifically but I think they did mention that he enjoyed it. And I’m almost positive they didn’t mention exactly why he switched to whales (he even said that he was at first worried as to how he’d make it work).

Was the passage about an author and her mother named Rose experimental? i haven’t seen anyone talk about it

is there a consolidated list we can put up?
