May SAT 2011: CR Section

Could anyone address the above two questions??? They’re really bothering me…

@Vivizzz: I don’t comprehend how mentioning the repetitiveness of the cave paintings is related to the diversity of the content. Wouldn’t something that is repeated be the opposite of diverse?

Well, I remember that the question was like " Compared with P2, P1 talked more about which aspect of cave paintings?" I think P1 was talking a lot about the lack of diversity in cave paintings, which was an “aspect” of cave painting.

@winnie1994: There was a question to which the answer was “tenuous”, but I can’t remember whether it was experimental or not. If it was in the same section as the Venice passage then it indeed was experimental. Also, then word tenuous is in fact in the Princeton Review Hit Parade.

Haha I think the word is ‘mediation’ not ‘meditation’

if you miss 9-11 problems in CR, what would u get in this test? could it be above 650?

Also, I think P2 definitely talked pretty much a lot about aesthetic power. There was something like" wanting to meet the artist as soon as the viewer sees the painting" or something like that in P2, which could be " ongoing influence."

Regarding the question about diversity, I’ll have to disagree.

Passage 1 said there was NO great diversity, and I’d say that the word “diversity” has only one straightforward meaning. In other words, when I speak of “diversity”, I instantly refer to there being NO repetitiveness. In order to say that repetitiveness EXISTS, I have to emphatically say LACK of diversity.

Hopefully someone gets what I’m saying. This is the reason why I believe the choice about “diversity” is incorrect.

As for the aesthetic power, passage 2 said that cave paintings make people want to meet the painters. That is not the same as aesthetic power. Aesthetic power would be the comments made in passage 1, in which the characteristics of the cave paintings were very elegantly delineated.

@smacking: haha sorry I meant list as in “answer-compilation-list” XP
yeah I know it was in direct hits as well… I was furious with myself when something clicked during a math section, and I was like “noooo did I just choose irrefutable?”

hmm I’m not 100% sure but since I did get the Venice passages it’s pretty likely now :)

and @monkeydude:wasn’t it meditation? you’re talking about the film vocab question, right?

Then how was " aesthetic power" justified? Though P2 stated that those paintings lacked in aesthtic power, it did talk a lot about the aspect of aesthetic power…

Vivizzz can you elaborate? Scratches head trying to recall aesthetic power references in P2

Also, who is re-taking in June?

Didn’t P2 mention the emotional effect that the cave paintings have upon people despite not knowing the identities of the artists in the very last sentence?

I think it only said that the paintings should be appreciated despite the identity of the painters…not that they have some emotional effect.

I can’t be 100% certain though.

@hohoho yeah, that’s actually where I identified" aesthetic power", and also, if I recall correctly, there was something about the viewers of the paintings being amazed and wanted to"meet the painters".

I insist on the problem of whether the desire to meet the paintings can be inferred as a reference to aesthetic power. I think it really depends on the wording. The way I remember it, it did not. But one cannot be too sure.

@Vivizzz: Indeed! So what is the right answer then? o_o;;

I really wish SAT results would come out earlier.
If I don’t get 2300+ I’m going to re-take it on my senior year in October.

I don’t want to risk studying for a couple of weeks only to realize that I got the score I wanted and, even if I don’t get the score I want, I doubt that a few weeks will make much difference in my score.

Is the last date to make changes regarding the June sign-up earlier than the date on which scores are released?

@Smacking: The last date to make changes to the June sign-up is May 18.

Scores are released on May 26.

Someone update the list w/ the following:

Evidence for natural history.

Playfully careless

Something about early attempts
