May SAT 2011: Math Section

i think that in the 3 consecutive integers one people just looked in the second sentence instead of the first to find the word consecutive … and didn’t im pretty sure it was their… i remember thinking about consecutive twice in the test

@xigi

wait… did you take account into the fact that it was the TOTAL surface area that was being proportionate to the other?

i dont understand how it is a^2 even if its total surface area although i put a^3/2 on the test.

JBCHUN, obviously I do not have access to the original question.

While there might be additional (and undisclosed) information that leads to a different problem statement, we can safely assume that the volume of a cube is directly proportional to the surface of one of its faces as I suggested. Using the total of the six faces would not make any of the other answers suggested in this thread “more” correct.

What do you think the correct answer should be if the question did indeed use the total surface of the six faces?

To help you out, consider a cube of a volume of 8 with each side being 2. One face area would be 4, and the total surface 4*6 or 24.

@xiggi

i’m hoping you’re right because i guessed last minute and chose A^3/2 (E)… :)

^^ Do not take my word for it. Play with this online calculator

[Exponent Calculator | Online Exponent Calculator | Calculate Exponent](Exponent Calculator | Online Exponent Calculator | Calculate Exponent)

Enter the number for a and play with 3/2 and other numbers as exponents. When a=4 and and an exponent of 3/2, the result is 8. See above why that should make you feel better. Try with a=9 and an exponent of 3/2, and you’ll get 27 for the result (3^3.)

theres a lot of discussion on the prime 165 quesiton… i got 165 as well but i really wish someone could type out the exact question cuz this pretty much decides whether i should cancel or not!!!

It is a^3/2… I did the math in the car, I had a brain fart and bubbled in a^2/3 instead… ■■■.

About the coordinate with the probability thing… I put 1/4 and ■■■

Why is everyone canceling scores?!? What if your score proves to be much higher than you expect. (Happened to me before.) I put 385, but I cannot remember the question clearly… LOL. It’s probably 165, since I cannot recall reading ‘consecutive’ in that problem.

Well I don’t know what kim had against tom…but she deff. Couldn’t sit near him. That question made me want to laugh so hard!

Anyone still up to it for the 165/385 question???

its 165 im almost 100% sure.

i stupidly put 135 because i put 9 as a prime like an idiot.
im sooooo angry right now xD

damn
for once i thought i would get a 800…
d
a
m
n

story of my life until i realized i got a easy math question wrong.

I actually think I put 19 instead of 165…

It asked to name 3 different prime integers that make a prime numbered sum and give the product of those 3 integers. I think I just added them and didn’t do the multiplying part, because I think I did this question right before the coffee question which I literally guess and checked on and got the answer…

did it say three consecutive or just three prime numbers greater than 2?
consecutive = 385
otherwise = 165

it did not say consecutive…how long is this gonna go on…

Somebody in this thread earlier mentioned a 1.33 something… I don’t remember anything like that.

Can anyone of you guys remind me which one had 1.33?

It didn’t say consecutive, it said whats the smallest possible value of “n” using 3 prime numbers greater than 2.

I got 385. I think it’s wrong, but you are supposed to know that the numbers would be consecutive because that’s the smallest possible value

I’m a bit unsure about the 1.3333 question as well… what exactly was the question ?? anyone remember?
