MBA - Right out of college

To the OP:

Personally, I would say that if you already have a successful business idea then I think you'd be better off just pursuing it, rather than getting an MBA. Frankly, not many Silicon Valley tech entrepreneurs have MBA's, nor do they need it. The guys who need it tend to be the for-hire CEO's that the successful startups bring in, as well as the venture capitalists who back the whole show, but if you want to be the entrepreneur, you should just go for it straight away. Heck, you might not even need to finish your bachelor's degree. To tell you to get an MBA would be like advising Bill Gates that he should have stayed in college. If your business doesn't pan out, you can then decide to go back and get your MBA (and MBA programs are filled with failed entrepeneurs). But if it does, you won't need it.

Frankly, presuming that you're talking about full-time MBA programs, you'd have to give up your position at work anyway even if you stayed in the Bay Area. That is, if you actually want to maximize the value you're going to get out of the MBA. The value of the MBA is in the networking and the recruiting, and you're not going to have time for that if you're holding down a job, and if you're not going to have time for that, then why even get the MBA? If you want to pursue your business, then you should just pursue your business.

Thanks all. I appreciate the insightful advice. I think I need to pursue my current ambitions and re-evaluate my interest in proceeding on the b-school track.
