sorry guys, I know theres like 50 Macbook questions on this forum...but I think mines different enough that it warrants this thread lol

so I'm probably gona get a mac and i really don't mind if its 13 inch or 15 inch. I do however mind the price difference of 500 dollars. So basically I'm curious about what you guys think about whether a supposedly "future proof" i5 is worth the extra 500 dollars versus a updated core 2 on the 13 inch. I also have friends saying that they would put i3s or i5s in 13inches this summer. However, that seems so unlikely to me considering they just updated the 13s...

what do you guys think?

thanks

What will you do on your laptop?

To summarize, the i3 will be enough for 80% of computer users. The only people who won’t be satisfied are the ones who use CPU-intensive tasks. This includes:

-CAD design
-Photoshop/Picture Editing
-Video Editing
-Heavy Gaming (Battlefield: Bad Company 2, GTA IV, Call of Duty); although while the CPU plays a role, this is more dependent on the graphics processor

Otherwise, most other common tasks (watching videos, doing homework, listening to music, multitasking, web surfing, Light to Medium gaming (Sims 3, Starcraft, WoW), instant messaging…) will see little to no real-world performance boosts by upgrading to the i5.

sounds good…I dont do too much intense stuff so I think ill end up sticking with the 1100 13inch…i assume 2.4ghz and 2.53 ghz are pretty much the same

Pretty much; a 153 MHz bump probably won’t do much in terms of real-world use, so I’d go with the 13" 2.4GHz i3.

Ah, my bad. Well, if you’re not planning to game or do any media editing/CAD design, and are just your typical average computer user, a 13" Core 2 Duo MBP should do fine.

Although, if you’re not into gaming, I’d like to suggest the Asus UL30A if you’re willing to consider it. My own personal laptop, and while it’s not much of a gaming laptop, it can still multitask very well on a 10 hour battery life.

Yeah I have a friend who uses an asus and I know the UL30A just because I see it
posted here a lot. I think I’m just kinda in the mood to try a mac. I’ve been a PC all my life and now just seems like a nice time to try. W/e if I don’t like it I’ll come back from this supposed dark side later hah
