So is it true that on the MCAT verbal section, 1 raw point = 1 scaled point (at least for 10+)? Like, if you got 36/40 on the verbal section, you'd only get an 11? that's pretty harsh

So what's a 24 out of 40? -1?

haha sorry, I meant mainly for scaled scores of 10-15ish... so like 35=10, 36=11, etc. But then below 10 it would be like 32-34 = 9, 28-32 = 8, etc. (hopefully that all made sense...)

I dunno, I'm going off of a scoring table I saw in my friend's prep book (forgot the name of it)

I took an unprepped diagnostic (used the paper version AAMC 5R) and I did quite badly.
i got 9PS 6VR 6BS (21). Is this normal? I feel like I guessed on most of the questions.

21 is decent. Usually translates to a 30-32 range final score.

*Obviously, you may end up with a 27 or a 37. But just from anecdotal evidence, I'd guess a score in that range.

i hope i can get into the mid 30s range. i just feel quite discontent after taking this test.

Kaplan and Princeton Review boast that their applicants generally see about a ten point gain.

FYI, a helpful thread on MCAT prep.

It's impressive to see so many students with high scores.

Haha. The CC crowd here has done pretty well, too. I'd wager our average score is probably higher than theirs.

Found two 40s and one 41 on SDN.

Is 41 the highest score in MCATs this year between SDN and CC?

So far as I know, only four CC regulars have taken the MCAT, and none of us are still undergrads.

41 is probably the highest score in the country, period.

Just as with CC, SDN (as well as MDapps) is a self selected group of overachievers.

I know I couple people who scored 42's in years past, and I have heard rumors of higher scores out of the may/june administrations around when I took my MCAT (I was not one of these rumored individuals, though I must say I did quite well :-D)

My son got a 41 this year (actually took the MCAT Summer before last), and is deep into med. school apps right now.

CD: Please let us know if there's anything we can do. We look forward to his hearing good news in the next few months.

Thanks Mike. He just got an invite to interview at Wash U., still waiting to hear from his other schools. And he was accepted after Soph. year at Tulane Med., where he is an undergrad.

For anyone who took a Kaplan course over the summer, when did your session begin? I'm interested in doing a Maymester course abroad before I start MCAT preparation, but Kaplan's website does not have the dates up for their summer classes. I'll be applying for the courses soon and I'm not sure when Kaplan will post the official dates. The Ireland trip returns to the States May 26th, and Italy the 29th. If it would cause me to miss any classes I'll hold off until next year, so if anyone has dates from previous experiences that'd be great.

Concernedad,

Any chance you could have your S post his study strategies for MCAT? Other kids could learn from him.

Thanks!

He really employed the xiggi method of SAT taking: practice exam after practice exam. He raised his score a point or two with each subsequent test.

Just signed into CC and saying hello to all!
