McGill Acceptance Decisions Class 2024 (Entering 2020)

@kjokeefe From the McGill website (https://www.mcgill.ca/applying/nextsteps/track/terminology) :

"We have received all the necessary documents.

In the initial review your application was deemed more competitive than those already refused were but less competitive than those already admitted. That places your application in the “grey zone”. Gradually during the cycle, as we fill the spaces in each program the “grey zone” will shrink and the final admission threshold will be determined.

At this time, there is little for you to do apart from checking Minerva regularly for changes. Offers of admissions are released in order of a merit. Check for estimated decision release dates

Please note that decisions may take longer for certain programs or for applicants with extenuating circumstances."

@yw123
I’m currently taking physics, chemistry and further pure As level math .
Predicted:
Physics A*
chemistry: A

Further pure As: A
And I sat my A level math last year and got an A

What are you taking + your predicted?

Physics, Maths,Further Maths , Economics , Arabic
predicted 5A*, achieved 5As in AS last year. Is Chemistry a requirement for mechanical engineering at McGill?

@yw123
No, chemistry is not required.
Only physics and math. ( from what I saw on the website)

Great! WHat other unis did you apply to ?

@yw123 From what I see on the website chemistry is required for all of engineering.
“PREREQUISITES
Minimum of three A-Levels in three different subjects, including at least two of A-Level Math, chemistry, or physics
Math, chemistry and physics at GCSE level”
https://www.mcgill.ca/applying/requirements/international/al

Yeah I took Chemistry at GCSE level, but didn’t take it as an alevel.

Accepted. International w/US High School. ACT33/GPA4.60. Excited !

Canadian tuition for french nationals is better than a scholarship.

@yw123
I applied to AUB,LAU
Georgia tech, Wisconsin Madison and Purdue.
Which other unis did you apply to ?

@momofthre3 McGill is super familiar with high schools in the Boston area - there are a ton of kids there from the schools. (We’re from Lexington.) They tend to know the rigor of the various high schools…my youngest was right at the GPA cut but way above on test scores and was admitted (Faculty of Arts) early in the cycle. Feel free to ping me with questions.

@swimmingdad
We are from Boston area. Son accepted into Desautels and Comp Sci program with Major scholarship. Is there a Boston based group for parents of McGill students that you recommend ?

@SwimmingDad this is great to know! We’re still waiting to hear, uploaded midyear grads on 2/11…we’re almost neighbors :wink: She has a good GPA but lower test scores, just hoping for the best. She also has dual citizenship so our fingers are crossed! @Mdoost congrats on your son’s acceptance!

@momofthre3 Please read back on earlier posts in this thread regarding tuition for dual citizens if you have not already.

Does anyone know how long it will take for my decision once I’ve sent in my first semester grades? I sent mine on February 5th and still have no decision.

@TomSrOfBoston Thank you, I have read through and believe I have a good understanding. I do have another question though. I just checked status and the date changed from transcripts last received on 2/11 to 2/17. She had uploaded them on 2/11 and it said date received: Feb 11. Any thoughts on why this date would change to yesterday without having uploaded something new?

@momofthre3 Not sure, perhaps someone in Admissions reviewed it yesterday ??

S got accepted today pending final results! Faculty of Science - BSc Bio, Biomed, Life Sciences. Uploaded mid-year transcript last week and got a decision today. Dual citizenship - born in the US never lived in Canada. US public HS with a rigorous program.
