Just wanted to post that my child got into Arts and Sciences without fully meeting all the minimums. US student. Accepted to faculty of arts in late December. No extenuating circumstances. They asked for mid term grades for arts and sciences. Her school sent them snail mail. McGill just got them a few days ago.
So she had a solid A- average overall in high school and a 33 on the ACT’s, but she had mostly B+’s in science and math classes, including pre calc and AP calc. So she never had an A- or better in a calc class, which is listed as a minimum. And she only had the A- in 2 of following 3 if you include bio from freshman year.
So maybe this isn’t that unusual, but I wanted people to know that it’s possible to get in without fully meeting or exceeding all the posted minimums.
@nhtigerdad Thank you for sharing, wish we had known that, my DD might have applied for Arts and Science! She was in the exact same situation as yours but we were told it was a hard line. Maybe it is more of a hard line for Engineering and more difficult programs.
That is a directive from the Quebec governmant. McGill and other Quebec universities are seeking clarification from the government as to what this all means. This is a very unsettled time on both sides of the border. Clarifications will likely come this week.
Hi guys, I really don’t want to be annoying but I’m having a pretty crappy day. Today, my twin sister got accepted to McGill whereas I have been on RDP for more than a month now. We have identical ACT scores (35) and almost identical GPAs. I’ve met all of the minimum scores and I even go to a more rigorous boarding school where I take above AP college electives. I just don’t understand. Anybody else in a situation like this? Anybody have an idea why I’m not considered a competitive applicant?
